Blog #2: American Icon Ideas

Grace Coddington
Grace Coddington is like the perfect fit for me because I share so many things in common and I inspire to not only be like her, but to have a life similar to hers as well. Grace is the main Creative Director at Vogue Magazine, but unlike Anna Wintour she is far less cold and mean which is much closer to my own personality. Her job requires her to not only have an eye for new trends, but she also has to be confident that the layout and "story" behind her picture she is creating will be approved of and satisfy many people. Finally, when she was 20, a serious car accident ruined her current modeling career which forced her to be resilient and to bounce back into a brand new successful career in the fashion industry since that was where her passion lied which she accomplished and then some.

Elizabeth Gilbert
I am just really inspired by her story and all of her newly found philosophy's and I would like to apply some of the things she did to my very own life. In a way, I look up to her.

Anna Wintour
I also admire Anna Wintour because not only am I considering a similar profession to hers but I also think that we both have a love for finding new trends and putting together new looks in common as well. She is also a powerful woman in a mans world today and I admire that as well.

Dogs
Finally, the third image that stood out to me as being an American icon was a dog. Dogs have been a big part of my life since around second grade and i got my own dog in fourth grade. Almost everyone I know owns at least one dog and having traveled to other countries especially in southern American countries dogs are not quite as big part of the everyday lifestyle for people. Dogs are loved as animals almost everywhere in the world, but in America there seems to be an especially strong bond between people and dogs.

Barbie
Right after I had thought of the uncle sam photo, for some reason, I thought of Barbie. This may have been because I grew up LOVING Barbies and they were pretty much my only "constant" toy that I loved all through my childhood. For me, I think that Barbie became an American Icon in my head because of its universal popularity with almost everyone I knew. EVERYONE knows Barbie.

Uncle Sam
When I originally thought of american icon", the very first image that came into my head was this image of uncle sam. This picture was used on posters which were recruiting young soldiers for the world wars. It would influence many people and make them excited about the war that was going on and so they would volunteer for what looked as though it was an adventure and would "get them the girl" and "make their mommas proud" when in reality the war was extremely brutal and horrifying. Usually this image is known to be seen on posters with the writing, "I want YOU for US army!"

Blog #1: Welcome Back to School!

1. My hopes for this year are mostly just that I get an internship that I am proud of and end up enjoying that has something to do with a possible career I am interested in. So far I am accomplishing my goal this year because I have already talked to and hopefully reserved my desired internship at my friends dads marketing firm downtown. I am also hoping that I will do well on the SAT and that I keep a relatively steady 4.0 GPA as well.

2. In humanities I hope to create at least two big projects that I am truly very proud of and to also improve on my test-taking skills so that I can achieve high scores on almost all of my tests I take during this coming year.

3. I think that one thing I am naturally good at is putting together outfits. Now I know that this isn't the most useful skill to have but it was the first thing that came to my mind after reading this prompt.
